The PHPDA contracts with the Washington State Department
of Social and Health Services (DSHS) for funding to provide interpreter
services to Medicaid patients. Services are provided to limited English
proficiency, deaf, deaf-blind, and hard-of-hearing Medicaid clients
at Pacific Medical Centers. PHPDA contributions are the primary source
of funding for this program, and federal Medicaid Match monies make
up the remainder. Services are provided to Medicaid patients during
their eligibility period, in conjunction with receiving Medicaid-covered
health services.
PHPDA funds provided interpreter services at 9,900
medical appointments in 2006, valued at over $666,000.

Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Spanish are the three top languages for
which interpreter services are requested at Medicaid visits.
