The goal of the Emergency Shelter Primary Care Clinic is to provide a health home for DESC clients who would otherwise not have access to immediate services, except for a costly and probably unnecessary visit to the emergency room. This project has added an ARNP and will add a medical assistant employed by Harborview to be sited at the shelter. DESC anticipates that the hiring of a Medical Assistant and relocation of the ARNP to the newly completed clinic space will result in an increase in the number of clients seen in the clinic. These aspects are part of the original program design, however. It is anticipated that 1,000 patient visits to the primary care clinic will occur during the upcoming year.
